PAT testing for 110v equipment is of utmost importance as it significantly decreases the risk of accidents on construction sites.

If you require PAT testing for your 110v equipment, you can use the contact form to get in touch with us. Alternatively, continue reading for more information.

We offer comprehensive testing services for fixed and portable electrical appliances, including equipment used on construction sites. Our team is available to conduct testing at your site, home, office, or any other location as needed.

But why do we use 110 volts on construction sites instead of 230 volts?

In formal building sites in the UK, 110v equipment is commonly used as standard practice and is often a requirement for site insurance purposes.

The Health and Safety Executive recommends the use of tools, plugs, and cables specifically designed for site conditions, as domestic-use equipment is not suitable. They further advise that site workers should utilize cordless tools where possible or those that operate from a 110v (CTE) center tapped transformer, ensuring the maximum voltage does not exceed 55 volts.

110v site transformers are designed as "center tapped" or dual-phase. This means that the 110 volts is further reduced to 55 volts x 2. This lower voltage and current are considerably safer to use and unlikely to cause significant harm if accidental contact with a live wire occurs.

How frequently should 110v tools undergo PAT testing?

While most sites have onsite generators with 110v sockets, it is recommended that you have your own transformer, which should undergo PAT testing every 3 months while in use on the site. Transformers convert the 240-volt current to 110 volts and distribute the current to at least two outlets to connect other tools. These tools should also be regularly checked by users, undergo formal visual inspections, and undergo PAT testing every 3 months to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Performing PAT testing on 110v equipment is critical as it significantly reduces the risk of accidents on construction sites.

On time , very efficient and polite. I would have no problem recommending this company and will be using them in the future.

This is the first time we have used Southern EET Testing. We found James to be efficient and courteous during his time on our premises and, as a local supplier, will certainly use them again.

Great service from the first phone call through to completion. We were on a tight time frame and they were able to come out to us at short notice and at a time and date specified by us.
